Dear all,
Does any one know if my time spent in the PhD course can be counted into the 4 years work permit for an ILR application? Cos one of my PhD colleague got his ILR one month ago by 1 year WP and 3 years on PhD. Not a few people said the PhD course is actually equal to a kind of work. Is it true? Please give me your idea and thought. All replies are welcome. Thanks a million.

I got my ILR using 1 year work plus 3 years PhD, but that was on an ancestory visa. Definitely possible. Depends on your contract and the like.

Hi. But I was perhaps on a student visa for these 3 years PhD. (not sure, because the stamp, the rules on the stamp and also the visa number of my previous stamp is same as the current work visa stamp. Everything completely same, except the dates) Who and what company can help me? Many thanks.

If you are in the UK doing a PhD then your are on a student visa. Student visa does not qualify you for ILR after 4 years.

Not true, it depends on the situation. I for example got ILR after my PhD. Depends on what visa you had while you were doing your PhD.

Hello,
If you are in the UK for reason other than being a full time student, and you happened to do a PhD under that visa, then that is another story. If you came to the UK with the sole reason to do a PhD, then you are on a student visa and that does not qualify you after 4 years.
