I am married and my wife will be applying as a dependent. I will be choosing the independent skilled catergory. I am confused on the skill matching section. Is is worthwile to fill out the skill matching section would it double my chances or should i skip it and depend only my my points. How long is it taking these days for skilled. Would i need to take the english requirement exam although i got my degree in US.

Hi Nas

First off, the Skills Matching section is completely separate from the Skilled - Independent visa application and should only be completed if you wish your details to be included in the OZ govt. database available to some employers. The Skills MAtching has no bearing whatsoever on your visa application and has nothing to do with the points test, nor will it give you a better chance of being approved. As long as you pass the points test, meet the basic requirements, and meet English language, health and character requirements you should be granted the PR visa.

For IT Professionals current processing times are 3-4 months for the visa (not including the time it takes for the ACS skills assessment)...you would not need to take the IELTS test since your degree was awarded from a US institution. The current visa fee is AUD$1125.00 for both you and your wife total.

Best regards

hi Elfa
thanks one one question.
Since my wife is a dependent does she have to take the English test in order to avoid the payment of the second installment. She has a bachelor degree from bombay india from an English medium college. If she does not have to take the IETLS what documents does she need to provide to prove her ability to speak english will he degree and mark sheets do
thanks again

HI Nas

Sorry for the delay in replying, it's been a rather hectic week

I think that in order for your wife to prove competency in the English language, she should submit a certified copy of her degree, mark sheets, as well as a letter from her University confirming that the sole language of instruction of that University is English. Then this should suffice.

Hope this helps!
