Hi elfa,
thanks for your reply.
I'm now thinking I may as well apply for permanent residence as I have been employed in Australia for almost 6 years now on a 457 visa. I have done the points test and it looks like I might have enough. I have a brother here who is a resident for a few years now and will be able to sponsor me. Which way is faster/safer/better..thru the family sponsorship or thru skilled independent? or do i still get points if I apply as a skilled independent and have family here as well?

thanks alot!

HI

Although processing times are similar for Skilled Independent as well as for Skilled Sponsored applications, it is generally advisable to apply under the Sponsored categories since you will have a better chance of being granted a PR visa under those categories, as long as you have a solid sponsor and assuror.

All the best
