Re: ciitzenship

Thanks for the valuable reply! If I(my friend) apply for a British passport, will the Indian passport become invalid. How can he have dual citizenship? Can he travel to India with Indian passport if it can be retained (of course yes) and enter UK with British Passport.? How does it actually work? T...

2) When applying for citizenship what exactly will be in the passport. 3) After getting citizenship, can we travel to all the European countries without a schengen visa or is British passport compulsory. Nothing gets put in your current passport, although your indefinite leave to remain (if that is...

You have to accept the facts in the book even if they are wrong as some of the correct answers in the test are not right I think that's probably right. To the OP, in terms of your first question (constitutional monarchy versus parliamentary democracy versus constitutional democracy), the UK is all ...

I don't believe that either status allows government employment. However, exactly what "government employment" exactly entails in India, I am not sure. Someone who knows will probably be along soon...

No, you need to have permanent residence for a year before applying. (If your husband were a British citizen you would not need this, but he is Dutch, so the concenssions to spouses of British citizens do not apply.)

Technically it will be void once you have attended the naturalisation ceremony, for it is at this point that you become a British citizen, and since India does not (in general) allow its citizens also to be citizens of another country, you will cease to be an Indian citizen then. In all probablity y...

A British citizen is entitled to enter (and re-enter) the UK at any time: citizenship is not lost by being outside the UK. People who naturalise and who are not naturalising on the basis of marriage to or civil partnership with a British citizen must intend to make the UK their main home after natur...

Re: GP charging £80 quid for each child

I think as long as they know the children it ought to be all right. "Know" here doesn't mean being friends with them or knowing them as a result of professional contact, simply being acquainted with them.

I agree with JulesN19 and andreachen. Checking with the Identity and Passport Service and having your application checked and sent off by a participating post office are both good ideas. Remember, too, that many people applying for their first British passport will have a passport to send in. Most w...

As above: if you apply via the NCS you will retain your passport and there is no reason why you shouldn't travel abroad while your application is being considered. Just make sure that you're in the country when the Home Office receives your application (and therefore allow a few days to a week betwe...

Well, thanks for that, Christophe - it makes sense, and that is what I was hoping to hear But what about Section 3.2 of the AN form, where the only choices are employee, business partner, self-employed, and director - none of which would apply to a "housewife"? If you are a "housewif...

Could you just choose a date that ties in with your other proof of being in the UK (e.g. the date you started work or study in the UK) and work onwards from there?

I don't think the Home Office would have your date of entry from five years ago, although others might know more about this than I do.

Being in employment is not a factor in the criteria or eligibility for naturalisation. I don't think being on unemployment benefits would have a negative impact on an application either — would it?

Working/employment is not a requirement for naturalisation. Plenty of people who naturalise as British citizens have never been employed in the UK — non-working wives would be the biggest group, of course.

My wife currently has ILR (dated Oct 2009). I am a British citizen. We were married in October 2007 and my wife first came into the UK on a Fiancee Visa in June 2007. She has passed the ESOL exams and has been resident in the UK since June 2007. Can she apply for naturalisation from June 2010 (3 ye...

Re: Am I eligible to apply for British Citizenship??

Hi There In the Home Office website it was mentioned that the applicant should be physically present in the UK at the begining of the residential qualifying period. (For example, if we received your application on 25 November 2005, you would have to show that you were in the United Kingdom on 26 No...
