Switching from asylum applicant to student depedant

Post by mmug » Wed Mar 06, 2024 11:22 am

This is for a friend: He came on student visa but could not complete degree and applied asylum application.

Question is: is it possible to switch to student dependant visa (if yes, does he need to go back to home country to make fresh application)

Many thanks for expert comments.

It depends on the student visa type of the individual he is to be the dependent of. It also depends on the relationship they have - are they married or partners.

The asylum claim would have to be abandoned to switch - that has implications in its own right.

There are is not enough information to give a meaningful answer.

He needs to discuss this with whoever is supporting him with the asylum application.

It is its own specialised area of immigration law, and not something for friends or online strangers to start advising on on an amateur basis.
I do not give immigration advice. I refer you to Immigration Rules, guidance, other online content and to your sponsor.
