EC approval in less than a week!

Post by apeterso925 » Mon Jul 09, 2007 4:41 pm

I received an email from the New York consulate that my visa has been issued! :)

The timeline was as follows:

July 2: Sent application FedEx priority overnight

July 3: App arrived to the consulate (first thing that morning)

July 4: US holiday (Independence Day, lol), consulate closed

July 5: at the end of the day, I received an email that my application was received and was being processed. It seems a safe assumption that this was the point where it had been assigned to an ECO.

July 9: Almost first thing this morning, I received a second email that my application was approved and the visa has been issued! :) The email also included the FedEx tracking number for the return of my docs (and having tracked it already, I should receive everything by mid-morning tomorrow).

I sent:

1) A covering letter which requested a post-dated visa to start on August 10th and listed all of the documents I included, with additional covering letters for each section
2) The printed EC application (applied and paid online)...I almost forgot to sign it before sending - oops!
3) My current passport (and an explanation for the absence of my old one)
4) My original HSMP approval letter, all of the supporting documents I included in my HSMP application (except I only included a copy of my driver's license) and in this section's covering letter, I quoted the breakdown of my awarded points
5) 6 months' bank statements showing funds and a printout of my car's market value (I'll be selling it before I move)
6) My CV, 3 printouts of relevant job adverts with listed salaries and a few printouts of email correspondence with a friend and colleague based in London, showing that he has offered to assist me in my job search.

While I did list a specific hotel as my intended initial accommodations on the EC application itself, I did not include an actual hotel booking.

Check the tracking for the package again this evening; on the day you receive that email, the consulate usually sends the passport etc overnight delivery (by 10.30am), not two-day express. There's something wonky about their tracking; it's a day forward, and the date only gets fixed when FedEx logs the package and updates the online tracking status.

Yep, I discovered that earlier when I first started stalking it on fedex.com :D Weird. So for the purposes of anyone else tracking their timeline, I edited my original post. As I type, it's en route from NYC to DC and should be on my doorstep in a mere 14 hours! ;)

You're not alone; I refreshed that tracking page every 30 seconds and jumped whenever I heard anything that sounded like a heavy vehicle coming down the street. It was the manic phase of OCD; how embarrassing. AG

Fedex is being coy now, they haven't updated the system in 4 hours, which is just plain mean. :) But yes - after all the months of the stress that is the HSMP process, I just want to SEE my visa. I will be guilting a coworker into driving me home tomorrow as soon as the eagle lands (I walk the 2 miles to work), so that I can pluck my precious passport off my doorstep. *That* is not a package I want sitting on my patio for 8 hours until I get home!

Are you certain that FedEx will leave the package at your house without a signature ?

Oy...I was going on that assumption, yes. Did you sign for yours?

Yes - but I live in a block of flats (section 8 housing for university staff). Maybe you want to go into work late (or work from home in the morning), just to be safe ? It's not clear what signature option the consulate will have marked in the delivery options, but a passport sitting on a doorstep sounds terrible.

It does indeed sound terrible, though if I recall correctly, the fine US govt sent it to me when it was new in the *regular mail*

For the purposes of future EC applicants wondering, I'll post tomorrow as to whether or not I had to sign for it...but I think I'll take my time leaving in the morning just in case.

I mean, what will my boss do...fire me? ;)
