One more question please and please excuse my ignorance but I've never applied to VFS by post before. Can I just send a normal A4 envelope with my postal application for return of documents or does it need to be a special Royal mail envelope? Same with sending the application?

Penalties

Post by welcome321 » Tue Oct 23, 2012 9:32 am

I have applied for sc in VFS 2 weeks back and I have paid only SC certificate fees. , I do know I need to pay penalty for using passport but VFS didn’t collected the penalty from me. Till now I have not got any call from VFS and no update. Do anyone know how long will it take? And what process likely to be?

Same thing happened to me to.
VFS didnt charge me and then the consulate called me for an interview which delayed the process to about a month. I had to pay the fine in the end :(

Surrender of Indian Passport - Tracking

Post by GreatMechEngr » Mon Nov 12, 2012 12:11 pm

Do the tracking for surrender of Indian Passport in the following link work?

https://www.visaservices.co.in/IHC-UK-TrackPassport/(S(3kvvyc55jmsjv32vdr1lsp55))/Track_Passport.aspx

I surrendered my daughter's Indian Passport last year and it use to work at that time. Now, I sent mine through special delivery & got confirmation of receipt through Royal Mail, but got a message 'No record found' on this link. Anyone has any idea?

Update: Tracking is working now. VFS took 4 working days only to process the application and therefore, no tracking information was available until now. So, the postal application will be delayed by at least 4 days in my case (when compared to personal application at the Visa Application Centre)

I have been told they do. Just submitted my application and the lady at the VFS said that I should receive my cancelled passport back.

Hi,

I recently got my BC and want to surrender my Indian passport.

(1) Are there separate applications for Surrendering Indian passport and getting certificate for the passport surrender?

(2) My BC Passport application is under way currently. Do I need to present British Passport at the time of Indian Passport surrender application or only British Naturalization certificate is enough?

(3) I wish to apply via Birmingham Office. Could please someone post a link for the application form?

(4) I have an expired Indian Passport (one with corner cuts). This passport has all UK visas. Do I need to surrender them as well? Or only need to surrender the new passport which is empty?
Thanks,

There's only one form to fill out for surrendering your passport. Once the completed form is submitted, they(HCI) issue a surrender certificate. click here for the form and here for more information.

Yes, you need your British passport before applying. If you look at the application form, you will notice that you will need to provide a copy of the first page and the observation page.

This may sound a silly question but still asking.

When you surrender Indian passport at VFS; along with SC-Surrender Certificate, do you also receive the cancelled passport back (with cancelled stamp)?

This can be useful to prove (in future if needed) that you held Indian passport in the past.
Information and/or advice provided by me is of general nature and is not intended to substitute for informed professional legal or other professional advice.

Don't think you require any address proof if you are applying in person. However, it's best to carry one.

Obviously this is for passports, but extends to all consular, oci related jurisdicton as well. And how do embassy/consulates ascertain the applications jurisdiction? Address proof.
Inconsistent approaches by the individual employees at HCI may be giving wrong impression!

I got my British citizenship almost 7 years ago but have not used my Indian passport since then (no stamps, etc). What is the average fine I might get in this case? (just a ballpark number)

Thanks
