Don't think you require any address proof if you are applying in person. However, it's best to carry one.
Jurisdiction

Applicants residing in Wales and Northern Island can submit their applications at the High Commission of India, London.

Consulate General of India, Birmingham: Birmingham, Durham, Humberside, Isle of Man, Isle of Scilly, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Manchester, Merseyside, Midlands (West), Northumberland, Cheshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cleveland, Tyne and Wear, Warwickshire, Yorkshire (North), Yorkshire (South), Yorkshire (West), Cumbria and Derbyshire.

Obviously this is for passports, but extends to all consular, oci related jurisdicton as well. And how do embassy/consulates ascertain the applications jurisdiction? Address proof.
Inconsistent approaches by the individual employees at HCI may be giving wrong impression!

I got my British citizenship almost 7 years ago but have not used my Indian passport since then (no stamps, etc). What is the average fine I might get in this case? (just a ballpark number)

Thanks

OCI seems to be a slightly better option than PIO. Have a look here and decide for yourself.

Applied @VFS Victoria: 24 Jan
Certificate issue date : 25 Jan
Available @VFS : 28 or 29th Jan

Collected shortly after. The VFS experience was hands down the best consular service ever. In over 10 yearsof getting visa, passports, renewal, etc ... none has been this painless. Now, if only HCI would outsource OCI applications to VFS!

You have a 3 month grace period to travel on your Indian passport. The grace period begins on the day of naturalisation, not British passport issuance.
I just travelled using this clause last month.

If it's more than 3 months you may want to check the applicable fine and still use your Indian passport.

To answer your question : no, you can't apply for surrender certificate and Indian visa simultaneously.

Hope this helps.

Ok, my information is from vfs Victoria . I hope you are right.

Unless it's been over 3 months since naturalisation why would you bother though?

In any case, good luck. Do let us know how you get on.

I'm inclined towards ssachida.. That's what I understood that you can't apply for visa and surrender certificate at the same time. However, hope you prove us wrong and it would be helpful to a lot of members if you can apply both at the same time.

Do let us know.

Can anyone help me, do we have to apply for the surrender certificate in the UK, or can we apply for it elsewhere?? as I have recently got naturalised, and have to travel to Malaysia to live there, was wondering to save time for myself, is it a must to apply for the surrender certificate here or could it be in Malaysia?
Also what documents do we require to send with the surrender certificate application?
Many thanks,

Thank you for your response, I did speak to the Indian Consulate and I have to apply for the surrender certificate here in the UK.

Could any one tell me do you have to send the copy of all the pages of the British passport with your application or just the important pages?

Many thanks,

Delay in Surrender certificate

Post by sruthiv » Fri Apr 05, 2013 6:03 pm

Hi all
I have handed my families Indian passports at VFS Glasgow Office on 06/03/2013 for surrender.
After I have applied we have received couple of text messages-
First one on 07/03/2013 stating our applications have been dispatched to the high commission of India for processing.

Second one on 09/03/2013 stating our applications are under process at the High commission of India.

I have contacted VFS via e-mail and they informed that they can't comment any thing about progress as they forwarded it to High Commission of India.

After 9th of march 2013 till to date we haven't received any further correspondence. We have been advised that it can take upto 3 weeks
for surrender certificate and cancelled Indian passports to arrive. It has been four weeks now and we haven't received any document so far.

Does anyone know where and whom to contact?
Thank u
