Applying for first-time Irish passport

Post by Kay27 » Tue Jan 14, 2025 11:23 am

Hi all,

There is probably a thread already on this but just wondering about the steps needed and documents to be sent.

I thought it would be more straightforward but it looks like I will need to send in my foreign passport. I am travelling abroad April 1 and am a bit worried about this as there may be a delay returning my foreign passport to me.

Proof of name and address - i don't have any recent official letters I can use. All my bank statements etc are only available online. I imagine corresponence must be recent.

Do I need copies of anything for the gardai?

I apologise for asking what i am sute is a silly question to some. If there is a thread please let me know, I couldn't see one.

Thank you

Kay

There was someone saying it took them only a week to get the new passport back, which is very surprising to me to be honest. If that is the norm now, you’d have nothing to worry about.

You can submit a certified copy of your passport biometrics page. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. It’s up to the processing officer to decide whether they accept that.

Official correspondence letters - it takes just a few minutes to request for a letter from Revenue or Department of Social Protection. There’s all sorts of tax credit letters, social benefit usage letters etc that you can get.

Online bank statements and utility bills are also fine.

Thaks so much for your very helpful reply.

So I can print my last bank statement and electricity bill? I honestly don't know what I could request to be physically sent. You mentioned revenue. Can I request online?

The trip away is very important and I know I would be panicking so may just apply on my return. I would rather just send passport then as if I just send biometric page it may delay things further.

This is my own fault for not looking into it further and thinking it would be all straightforward.

Again, thanks for the information, which I am sure will help others.

Hi, I've sent my docs and anpost shows them as delivered but the application itself is still pending documents. Is this common?

Your tax credit statement and employment detail summary (EDS) should both be available to request from your Revenue account. You should have already got your EDS for the past 5 years when you applied for your naturalisation application, so you just need to request for a new one for this.

Alternatively, you can also request for a welfare contribution statement from https://services.mywelfare.ie/en/topics ... statement/

This is so incredibly helpful littlerr. I will do this and send off my passport as soon as I return from my trip. I can't thank you enough for your help today. I felt so incredibly overwhelmed this morning and your responses have toally calmed me!🙂
