Bring NON EU parents to stay in UK

Post by s0787671 » Fri Aug 02, 2024 10:25 pm

Hi,

I acquired UK citizenship and been since 2015. My parents are now in their 70's based in UK. I wanted to know if I can permanently bring parents to UK to stay with me. As they now need to be cared for at their age.

But I am not sure if I can bring them to stay in UK other than visit visa route.

Your assumption is, most likely, correct. UK isn't encouraging chain migration.

Further to fellow Moderator meself2's response, you should be aware that the Adult Dependent Visa is the most difficult settlement visa to obtain, with only a minimal chance of success.

You would be required to submit compelling documented evidence that both of your parents need daily help with simple tasks, such as bathing, dressing and preparing meals. Also, this care must not be available in their home country, or is not affordable.

The extremely low percentage of visa applications which succeed, are often following a lengthy and costly Court appeal.

If you apply for a ADV and are refused, this will close the door for visiting the UK in the future, due to their prior intention to settle.

meself2 has asked a very pertinent question about clarifying what you mean by your parents being 'based' in the UK

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

This OP has been asking the same questions since 2021. I suspect the parents are frequently staying for the full 6 months or longer. OPs parents are Indian citizens, where care is very affordable for a UK resident.
