Hello,
I am in the process of applying for British citizenship. I have the Permanent Residency and passed the Life in the UK exam. I hold an Italian passport which just expired.
I am trying to figure out if I can apply with the expired passport - does anyone can help?
I have seen previous posts with contrasting views. Also, in the application, it says the following
"Use your passport to complete this section. If you cannot supply your current and valid passport as part of your application, select No."
It says "current and valid" which I am interpreting as "not expired", but I may be wrong.
Furthermore, if you select "No" (i.e. cannot provide a current and valid passport), the next page had the following options for "Reason for not providing your passport":
You are unable to provide your passport with your application because:
- You have lost it, or it was stolen
- You have never had a passport (for example, because you were born in the UK)
- You have previously applied for leave and your passport has not been returned
- You have sent the Home Office your passport as part of someone else's application
- Other
As you can see, there is not "it is expired" option, which could indicate that actually it is OK to apply with an expired passport.
Any help would be very appreciated - thanks a lot in advance!
