Applying to Naturalisation through EU Settlement Scheme (BRP/Previous immigration application)

Post by CluelessCitizen » Thu Nov 30, 2023 11:52 pm

Hello there,

Just trying to navigate this application process as correctly as possible. I searched for an answer to the below on this forum but couldn't find it stated clearly anywhere.

Does anyone who has gone through this with settled status as an EU national know what to answer when asked about previous immigration applications?

I had answered "No, I do not have a BRP for my most recent leave" when asked to provide a BRP as I never needed one as an EU national. But does the EUSS count as a previous immigration application? If so, how to fill out the information requested?

Any help or links to previous threads with the answer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes yours SS does count and you need to include the dates of your application.

Didn’t you receive BRP after you have been granted the SS?

I did not, no. I am an EU national. My understanding is that those who are and apply through EUSS don't get one. I never applied pre-EUSS when I believe they might have been granted as part of the ILR procedure?

Not sure why you didn’t get one, I thought everyone does. If you don’t just say that you don’t have one.

Maybe more experienced members will shed some light.

This should be well known!
EU nationals dont get BRPs. EUSS is a digital status. Under old EU regulations EU Nationals used to get a paper card if they applied for one however they are now invalid and can’t be used.
EUSS ref number can be quoted. @CluelessCitizen NO you don’t have a BRP and state your EUSS ref number. No issue.

Thanks for confirming alterhase58.

I already answered "yes." to "Have you been granted indefinite leave to enter, or remain, in the UK?" and provided my leave granted date and UAN there. Should I still proceed with listing this as an immigration application? Seems a bit counterintuitive to do so again - it would imply I should also do one for pre-settled status?

They want to know the history, so pre and full EUSS can be filled in (their records may not be complete - I know hard to believe ...).
It's not a deal breaker but I always recommend to fill in everything unless it's marked optional.

It's only a couple of dates and the UAN, no harm in providing it again. I was in the same situation and I repeated the data for settled status.
