British passport documents query

Hi,

I done my ceremony and applying for passport now. When applying the HMPO asking me to send the below documents
1. the passport used to enter the UK
2. any current or expired passport

My initial enter is on my old passport which is cancelled. Due I need send only the current passport or both including the cancelled passport

Only uncancelled passports, so it would be your current passport.

You need to send the passport that was used to enter the UK as well, alongside your current passport. Even if it's expired or cancelled.
So you could end up sending 2 passports. Old and new.

You need to send the passport that was used to enter the UK as well, alongside your current passport. Even if it's expired or cancelled.
So you could end up sending 2 passports. Old and new.

This is incorrect. You are allowed to dispose of your cancelled passport so it would be irrational to request it. You need to only send passports that are valid. All your valid passports need to be sent, not just one (I know the OP has only one but in general people might have several)

How can that be incorrect when it's clearly on the website and the system requests for it after the verification exercise?

You have a certificate of naturalisation or registration
You’ll need both:

your naturalisation or registration certificate
the passport you used to come into the UK or the foreign passport you’re included on

You can say it can be overlooked because some people lose theirs. But don't say it's incorrect!

I think it is not a statutory requirement for a dual national to present a foreign passport, before they receive a British passport. What HMPO want to check is that there are no travel documents in circulation showing different names (and some applicants have problems with this).
In practical terms, for example refugees often don't have their home country passport anymore, or the Home Office has retained it, they only have a travel document issued by the UK. Or in some countries' authorities retain the expired passports and no copy is taken.
I don't believe a British citizen will be refused a passport if they don't present a foreign passport, or all if they have more than one.

I tend to agree with some of your line of thoughts. However please note that any British citizen can be refused to be issued a passport or a current passport cancelled or withdrawn at anytime.
The passport remains the property of the crown. This is clearly stated on the British Passport.

The passport used in entering the country is mostly requested for, so that the HMPO can verify if there has been any other aliases that hasn't be declared by the Citizen. This only happens for 1st adult passports after naturalisation.

Current/expired other passport is requested for so that the HMPO can verify if the person has the same name floating about. Note that if one has a current/expired other passport and doesn't submit that during the passport application process, passport issuance would be delayed and not issued until received.This is clearly for dual citizens. I have seen this happen.

Refugees are a different kettle of fish as the HO have their documents already.

It's left to the applicant to either delay or fast track their passport application by doing the right thing or not. HMPO can't be bothered. They close at 5pm anyways, and won't lose any sleep over it.

I submitted only my current passport and got my UK passport.
