English Test - which one is the easiest?

Hello! My wife just passed her Life in the UK test. She's got ILR, so the only thing pending is the English language test. There is a new list that contains a number of approved tests, but so many different levels we were left a bit confused.

I have 2 questions: which one is the easiest and which one is the cheapest (I've seen the cost for most is £150!?!)

Any help would be much appreciated!

I am going to assume your wife got her ILR prior to 2005 before the LIUK was introduced and you have mentioned she just passed her LIUK.

The English requirement for BC is English at level B1 of the CEFR. There are now just two tests on the new list that can be taken, (its the old transitional list that contains multiple tests but these can no longer be used if taken after 6 April)

The 2 tests are IELTS Life Skills or the Trinity GESE Grade 5 exam.

I would suggest the Trinity one as this is just a 10 minute test and the most simplest one.

Yes, she got her ILR before 2005 and we took to long to apply, so now she is having to do the LIUK and English according to the new rules.

I was checking the Trinity GESE Grade 5 you've suggested and it looks really easy. The official government list

also includes the Grade 2, which looks even easier. Is this Grade 2 only applicable to children?

Children don't need English for citizenship applications, it is only a requirement for adults or persons over 18.

She will need to do B1 Grade 5 for citizenship. If she does A1 Grade 2, she is likely to face a refusal and loss of citizenship application fee.
