Naturalisation application queries

Post by kepop » Thu Feb 22, 2024 8:06 pm

Hi All

Please can someone clarify the following regarding my mom’s naturalisation application which I’m helping her:

1) Can the referees sign the declaration forms digitally using PDF/Adobe editors? Are digital signatures accepted?

2) Can a digital passport size photo be used on the referee declaration form instead of an actual physical photo?

3) for proof of living in the UK for a spouse of a British citizen, it says we need to upload documents in support covering the last 3 years but also states that “Bank statements or household bills are not suitable proof you have been living in the UK.” - what else can be used if bank statements and utility bills are not accepted, she doesn’t work so haven’t got anything employment related.

4) Previous application details - Do I have to list all the previous applications made in the UK like first visa, ILR etc?

Any help regarding the above would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi All

I assume so, everything is uploaded anyway.
2) Can a digital passport size photo be used on the referee declaration form instead of an actual physical photo?
yes of course and everything is uploaded anyway.
3) for proof of living in the UK for a spouse of a British citizen, it says we need to upload documents in support covering the last 3 years but also states that “Bank statements or household bills are not suitable proof you have been living in the UK.” - what else can be used if bank statements and utility bills are not accepted, she doesn’t work so haven’t got anything employment related.
as ILR holder it’s normally the passport covering the residency period which is sufficient, with entry stamps.
4) Previous application details - Do I have to list all the previous applications made in the UK like first visa, ILR etc?
Yes - note the wording, any application.
Any help regarding the above would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Thank you so much @alterhase58, very helpful.

I would appreciate if another member could please clarify/confirm re my question 1. I just need to be assured that it is OK and possible for referees to electronically sign the PDF rather than sign in wet ink please.

Also, I’m assuming if digital photos are accepted, it would be a matter of editing the PDF form to add the digital photo in the image box and re-saving the PDF form - is that correct?

Thanks for your help!

It doesn't really matter what format your photo is as everything get loaded to the system as part of your application, just like a digital signature is equal to the wet signature. Having been on this board for a good few years I don't recall anyone reporting issues with their application due to photo or digital signatures.

Thanks for your help!

Hi thank you for clarifying. One of the referees has signed the form digitally and sent it back but I noticed he has used template signatures fonts to sign his name. For example if the name is Peter Morris, it is signed digitally in cursive letters. Do you think this will be a problem? Are these adaptable signatures using template fonts accepted or does it need to be the exact signature they use or have previously used (for their own applications) ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Best for it to be a signature that is compatible with what the referee signed on their passport. Typed signatures probably not accepted as anyone could have typed if

Agree with above... I would not take the risk of using a referee declaration with false signature which it could be considered.

If they're not able to one way or another (and there are various ways you could do such) create their signature for putting onto document in electronic format then default to sending them the physical form with a stamped addressed envelope so they can return it straight back to you when completed.

Also could ask them to simply scan the form after they signed it, a digital copy is OK. That is what I asked my referees to do if they didn't have a digital signature.
