Renewing a child's UK passport whilst visiting UK

Post by SIG » Thu Dec 07, 2023 5:23 am

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are well.

We are currently in Pakistan and my 8 year old son's UK passport is due to expire in the last week of July 2024.We are planning to visit the UK at the start of June 2024 for 6 weeks and were wondering if we can simply renew my son's passport during that time. We would really rather avoid renewing his passport from Pakistan as it is a very long and difficult process.

In this regard, I was wondering if anyone can please help me with the following:

1. Does anyone have any experience with the situation where a child's UK passport is valid for only 1.5months upon entry to the UK. Is the UK immigration likely to question/object to this at the airport?

2. Are the airlines (such as Emirates, Qatar or Etihad) likely to question the child/parent at the flight check-in regarding only 1.5 months validity left on the passport.

3. What are the requirements for renewing the passport from the UK whilst we are visiting. What documents do we need to provide for this. Do we need to show a proof of UK address (e.g. a Utility bill or would a letter from the bank suffice).

Many thanks for your help.

2. Are the airlines (such as Emirates, Qatar or Etihad) likely to question the child/parent at the flight check-in regarding only 1.5 months validity left on the passport. Maybe, but doubt it as a British citizen cannot be refused entry to the UK.

3. What are the requirements for renewing the passport from the UK whilst we are visiting. What documents do we need to provide for this. Do we need to show a proof of UK address (e.g. a Utility bill or would a letter from the bank suffice). Best you start an online application this will tell you what exactly is required - note you can opt for a fast-track service 1 week. https://www.gov.uk/get-a-child-passport
