Citizenship Application: Spouse or 12 Month ILR Route?

Post by beshem » Wed Mar 13, 2019 12:38 pm

Hello everyone! This is my first post. I am sorry if this is a repost as I have not been able to locate a relevant question. My question is as follows:

- I will be eligible to apply for British citizenship on two grounds: I am married to a British citizen and lived in the UK for the last 3 years AND I have held an indefinite leave to remain for the last 12 months. Which route is more advantageous? Should I mention that I am eligible to apply for citizenship on a separate ground too?

Finally, a relatively easier question: Can I travel with my passport and biometric card after applying for citizenship?

Thanks to everyone for their time!

There is no benefit or advantage of one route over the other. They both result in the same thing, ie British citizen otherwise than by descent.

If you applying online and use the new UKCVAS service to submit documents and enroll biometrics, then yes you are free to travel.

Scanning Documents by i Phone

Post by beshem » Wed Apr 03, 2019 5:50 pm

Hello everyone!

I have applied for naturalisation online, and will make an appointment within a day or so. I have a specific question about scanning the supporting documents. Has anyone tried to upload supporting documents after scanning them with an i Phone app?

Thanks!

I did use my idiot-phone to scan my documents, the app I used it’s called genius scan, got orange and white logo kinda thing.
First I’ve uploaded only few documents and then I called UKVCAS and asked them to check the quality of the documents before uploading them all, they confirmed they are of a good quality.

Supporting Documents for Naturalisation Application

Post by beshem » Thu Apr 04, 2019 4:22 pm

Hello everyone!

I have two questions about the supporting documents. I will refer two statements in the "Guide AN
Naturalisation Booklet – The Requirements":

(1) Evidence of freedom from immigration time restrictions
• Your passport showing permission to remain permanently in the UK
• The Home Office letter by which you were given permission to remain
permanently in the UK

It does not indicate biometric card (I have indefinite leave to remain) among the eligible documents here. My passport does not show that I have an indefinite leave to remain obviously and I do not have the letter from the Home Office (I cannot locate it at the moment). Could you please clarify this requirement?

(2) Evidence of British citizenship
• Your spouse’s or civil partner’s current passport or naturalisation/registration certificate showing that he/she is a British citizen. You should provide a complete and full copy of your spouse’s or civil partner’s current passport. Every page in the passport must be copied including the blank pages, and
• The marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate.

I would like to submit my spouse's naturalisation certificate as it is a single page. But I am a bit confused by the extra sentence there "You should provide a complete and full copy of your spouse’s or civil partner’s current passport. Every page in the passport must be copied including the blank pages". Could you please confirm if I should submit both documents just in case?

(1) BRP is evidence of immigr. freedom so include it - passport required anyway as identity document.
(2) It does say "or" - there's no need to provide all documents described "just in case". And every passport page means every page.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

It is ONLY you BRP card that is required.

Did you miss the word OR between 'passport or naturalisation'??

Thanks for the responses. No, I did not miss the word "OR". I am one of those who believe that any text can give rise to different possible meanings and it is hard to speak of one interpretation as true and the other false :)

The text in the guidance could be more clear if it said: "If you are providing your spouse’s or civil partner’s current passport, you should provide a complete and full copy of it."

Thanks anyway. I feel more confident now after your responses!
