I've recently become a British citizen, and now hold both a British passport and an EU passport from my home country.
I'll soon be travelling from the UK to my home country. I was hoping someone could advise me on which passport I should be showing at different stages of my journey.
I understand I should leave the UK on my British passport, but the authorities no longer check your passport when you exit the UK, so the first time I need to show my passport is at the gate when I board the plane. Should I show them my EU passport then to prove I have the right to travel to my home country?
Should I also enter my EU passport details when I check in online for the UK > EU flight?
When I arrive in my home country (EU), I'll of course use my EU passport at passport control.
For my flight back to the UK, should I check in online using my UK passport details?
In my home country, there's a proper passport control before you even get to the gates. Which passport should I show to the border force officers then? My EU passport, as I believe I'm supposed to leave my home country on my EU passport?
Then at the gate, do I then switch to my British passport to show I have the right to travel to the UK?
Thank you!
