Can you apply for OCI and renunciation parallelly ?

Do I need both surrender and renunicaiation certificate for oci india ?

Hello, I just got my British passport after naturalization, do I need both the surrender Certificate and renunciation certificate to apply for OCI, or just the surrender certificate?

Also, can I apply for my son and wife OCI along with me. ? Both are British citizens (Born here).

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Also, can I apply for my son and wife OCI along with me. ? Both are British citizens (Born here). You need to get your OCI first, then based on your OCI you need to apply for your wife and son. Any doubts you can walkin to near by VFS, then will help with any queries

You need to have your surrender certificate first... process is as below
    Apply for your surrender certificate, wait for it to arrive
    Once you have surrender certificate, apply for renunciation certificate .they will ask you for copy of surrender certificate and british passport proof etc..
    Once you applied for renunciation, take the payment receipt and go to vfs for applying OCI. You don't need to wait for your renunciation certificate to arrive for applying OCI. But, HCI will not issue OCI card unless you send them copy of renunciation certificate.

    Which means they will process both renunciation and OCI in parallel but they will not issue OCI unless you send them a copy of your renunciation certificate.

    OCI is for indian citizens , so not sure if it will be applicable for british citizens.

    How long does the Surrender Certificate take to come please?

    Is it possible to apply for the Passport Surrender without the British Passport?

    (Basically I am trying to reduce the time taken to complete the process and seeing if I can apply for the Passport Surrender in parallel to the British Passport application)


    But, HCI will not issue OCI card unless you send them copy of renunciation certificate.


    How do we send them a copy of the renunciation certificate? Will an email do it, or do we need to take appointment etc?

    You will get your surrender certificate within 2-3 weeks of application. You will need to give copy of your british passport not the original.

    There is an email Id, to which you will need to send your renunciation certificate to.
