Does receiving benefits impact settled status application?

Post by luca1234 » Sat Nov 18, 2023 10:52 am

Hi,

My wife and I both have pre-settled status. My wife does not work and I would like to request child benefits for her, since we have a son. Receiving child benefits makes each months count toward jubilation. I am afraid that receiving benefits may undermine her application for for settled status, when the time comes. Is this reasonable or am I overthinking?
We would not even receive any money from the child benefits, since we earn more than the threshold.

Thanks in advance

EU Settled Status is about residency - there are no work or financial requirements.

Whether you can apply on pre-settled? The following may answer: https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit/eligibility
refer to section "If you have pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme"

In your other topic, your baby is due to be born in February 2024, in the same month you believe you will qualify for settled status. Do you have another child?

@Casa: yes, we have one son and a second baby on the way :D
@alterhase58: I know that my wife qualifies for child benefits, but I started to think that maybe receiving benefits my put at risk her application for settled status when the time comes.

Thanks all for the answers :D

Hope it all works well, with the new child and the application.
There are rules in place around benefits and who is entitled or not.
If you are entitled to something and you claim it you cannot be discriminated against for that reason.
