EEA family permit expiration

Post by thombent9 » Tue Feb 05, 2019 9:58 am

I'm currently in the UK with my wife on a UK Family Permit. We are both working and have a child. The permit expires in May. My intention is to remain in the UK with my wife. Can I renew my permit? Do I have to apply for a residence card. Please help. Thank you.

No. You cannot renew a family permit. It's a document that's supposed to be replaced by a Residence Card (or Pre-Settled status).
Do I have to apply for a residence card.
Yes. Although, seeing Brexit and your timeline, you might want to consider applying for Pre-Settled status instead. Some pro's and cons:

You can apply for a RC now.
You cannot apply yet for Pre-settled status, you need to wait for the end of March.

RC costs £65.
Pre-settled status will be free.

Your call.
