FLR (FP) English test requirement

Post by vashthareaper » Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:46 pm

HI,

i was granted family vis FLR(FP) based on private life. now its time for my 1st extension in a month time. i am so confused as i read online and was told by one solicitor too that i do not need to provide proof of English knowledge and funds.

However i am seeing mixed information here, can anyone confirm this please. an example of the post is this

https://www.immigrationboards.com/engli ... 50108.html

Here the OP is being advised about the english test instead being told that he doesnt need one for the extension.

Please if anyone could guide me

Thanks

This person apply for FLR(M) spouse visa, which DOES require an English test. Nowhere in that topic were they advised an English test level is not required. Different visa routes have different requirements.

Thank you for replying. could you please help me a bit more. i have a British son , British step daughter and British partner. in my original application the immigration advisor selected "parent" and i was granted visa based on "Family member on the parent 10-year route to settlement"

so now for my extension would i select the option parent again and base this extension on my son being the British child?

i am trying to read the link you sent but suffering from low blood pressure i am struggling to find the relevant information. So if you would be kind enough to guide me if i need the English test for my extentsion (i was told by a solicitor i don't) , however i am finding conflicting information everywhere.

On my decision letter it says i was granted parent 10 year route however this is what i found on gov-immigration website in "Apply as parent" section of the Family Visa.

"When you can settle permanently
The earliest you can apply to settle in the UK (called ‘indefinite leave to remain’) is after you’ve lived in the UK for 5 years continuously on a family visa as a parent.

You cannot include time you’ve spent in the UK on any other visa"

Thank you so much once again
