Applied: Feb 17th, 2024
Application received: April 4th, 2024
Approved email: December 8th, 2024.
Received Certificate: December 16, 2024
Passport Application: December 27, 2024

Good luck everyone!

Update:
Passport application received: December 27, 2024
Passport application supporting papers received: January 6, 2025
Estimated passport issue date: April 2, 2025
Is the wait for the passport really that long?! I sent off for mine yesterday and was hoping to have everything back by mid March as I’m planning on going away around then. The first time passports estimated turn around times were showing about 20 working days when I applied.
I wrote in post below that my passport was posted 22/01/2025 Should have it any day this week ( 01/27/2025. It already has passed through New York customs processing. Official Ireland tracking site stated 04/02/2025. So it is coming about 2 1/2 months earlier. Will update when received.
Just watch it with USPS Informed Delivery-They'll update when it heads to a local processing center.

Update. Passport which was mailed from Ireland on January23, 2025 is still at ISC New York, NY facility. Yesterday I received back my US Passport and application passport papers I submitted. That was mailed from Ireland on January 29, 2025. Both envelopes mailed the exact same way. USPS told me yesterday it can take 45 days before they forward it. Crazy!

Almost 2 months earlier than IE Passport Office date estimated of 04/02/2025 in beginning tracking on IE website. Postal service did inform me it was held up in customs for 2 weeks (lucky as Post Office Customs have 45 to process customs). Thanks to all for info and sharing their stories. Very helpful!

Reposting this here from the "first time passport" thread

My witness was called today (a notary public here in the US), and the online tracker now says "Your Passport Book is being printed. Any all documents submitted will be returned separately "

For reference my documents were received on the 21st.

I submitted my birth certificate, a notarized photocopy of my FBR cert, a notarized copy of my US drivers license (front and back), and a bank statement + a thing from my local county for proof of name & address.

I did not send in my US passport. If you do send in your passport instead of other identity documentation make sure its your actual passport and not a notarized photocopy. They won't accept a copy of the passport. (But they will accept a notarized copy of your drivers license)

Importantly I made sure my Witness followed these instructions when stamping the photocopy of my FBR cert and photocopy of my Drivers license: https://www.irishimmigration.ie/how-to- ... -document/
Write ‘Certified to be true copy of the original seen by me‘ on the document

Sign and date the document

Print their name under the signature

Add their occupation, address and telephone number.

Apologies if you were not talking about the passport as the word verification is a salient talking point and stage in getting the Passport

Hello,

My situation is that my Grandmother (English) was married to an Irish citizen at the time my mother was born.

My mother was given his surname, but he does not appear on my mother's birth / marriage / death certificate (which has no father listed anywhere).

I found a local parish council registry for my mother a couple of years after of her christening with him listed as the father.

On his death certificate from the 90s, it confirms that he was born in the Irish republic and was signed by one of my uncles (listing him as son-in-law with the address I recognised - I lived on the same road as a kid).

But that is about it. This man was definitely Irish, definitely married to my grandmother and definitely still had a family connection some 30 years later.

I don't know if it would be worth putting the application in. Unfortunately I don't have any more details, it seems pretty messy but my mum died when I was a child and my grandmother had children with other partners afterwards.

Back when I was young some people were called common law husband and wife As a Metaphor for not being married. As there is usually a record somewhere if it did happen.- Good luck

Hi, yes sorry to clarify.

My grandmother was married to him (the Irish citizen) at the time of my mother's birth and I have all relevant birth / death / marriage certificates.

However, no father is listed on any of my mum's certificates, the only evidence I have is that she was given his surname and there was a parish record of her christening with the Irish citizen listed as the father. But I did not know him personally.

You should be ok to apply
You need only to submit your Irish lineage birth /marrige/ death certs of grandmother your father and your own relavent docs they must should a clear path thru to you in these docs usually thru the marriage cert

Have a look at the app form on the web without applying or paying and you can follow the line they want to see

the absense of a father on mothers docs may trigger a request for further info and i have heard of retrospective additional docs for that leaglly done by a solicitor but im guessing. It may be worth seaching the forum as im sure its come up before and may be more decerning folks can add to this also
