180 days duration on a 2 year visit visa

Post by ramanvaishya650 » Sat May 06, 2023 3:24 pm

Hello, I have 2 questions i have received a successful 2 year visit visa but on the visa sticker it says duration :180 days does that mean i can only stay total of 180 days during next 2 years ?

My second question is i stayed in uk for 2 months last august and September and now I'm planning to go again for 3-4 months from june onwards. How is 6 months in the year rule calculated ? Do you think i will have any issues?

You cannot be spending more time in the UK than you do in your home country.

You can stay for a maximum of 180 (6 months) in a rolling 12 month continuous period.

Hello, I'm not spending more time in the UK. I visited for 2 months in august-september-2022 which was 8 months ago. now I'll stay in the UK for only 3.5 months from June-September 2023, is this allowed?

and 180 days on a visa means a total of 180 days on all visits to the UK or just 180 per a single year?

That should be OK, as neither visit is more than 180 days and it does not appear to be either frequent or successive at first glance.

180 days on a visa
A multi year visa means
(a) no more than 180 days on a single visit (i.e. you will need to leave within 180 days of the immediately preceding arrival), AND
(b) you will not reside in the UK in the guise of a visit visa, by frequent or successive visits.

There is no numerical limit on how many days per year you can stay in the UK. But if the Immigration Officer thinks (based on the guidance that vinny has linked to above) that you are coming to the UK too frequently or staying here for too long (even if you are here within the terms of the 180 days limit), then they can either cancel the visa on the spot and return you back from the airport or they can put a remark to that effect on your Home Iffice records, which will make a visa renewal nigh on impossible.
