BRP or BRC? Whats the diff? As ILE-holder, which do I apply for?

Post by Brill » Mon Oct 14, 2019 1:10 pm

I have a yellow Indefinite Leave to Enter(ILE) sticker in an expired U.S. passport. I understand that this is the equivalent of an Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), or rather is a subcategory of having ILR status. It seems that I need to apply for a biometric card of some sort in order to apply for any new employment in the UK. Beginning the online application process for the updated version brought me to a point where it asks if I am applying for either a Biometric Residency Permit or a Biometric Residency Card. Reading around I cannot find a clear distinction nor which box I should tick. There must be some difference or they wouldn't ask. Can anyone tell me the difference between the 2 biometric documents? I might then use that info to assess my particular case, which is not too complicated. My "settlement" here is as the spouse of a Brit citizen.
Thanks to anyone

{I have travelled in and out of the UK several times without any major obstruction using the old passport with that 'Entry Clearance' sticker and my current US passport. I believe that this travel is still allowed even though passport control at Manchester airport have been a bit resistant.}

Thank you. I expected as much.
My first question still stands: Whats the difference between a BRP and BRC?

Foreign nationals from outside the European Economic Area making certain applications to the Home Office have to apply for a BRP. (e.g applying for NTL if you are a UK family member holding ILE)

Foreign nationals from outside the European Economic Area who are able to live and work in the UK based on rights derived from EU law may apply for a BRC. (e.g EEA family members excluding UK family members)
