Hi Folks,
I got ILR last year and I was preparing documents to apply for UK citizenship in July to have dual citizenship. (I am Turkish by birth). Due to recent family health issues, there is a high possibility to move to Turkey to live there as of 2020 rather than staying in the UK.
My question is if I apply for UK citizenship now and after having dual citizenship, If I go back to Turkey to live and work there permanently (apart from visiting UK for a few weeks in a year for touristic purposes),
1) Do you see any problems or obligations that I carry out due to leaving UK to move abroad just after getting UK passport from UK POV?
2) Will I need to pay tax to Uk for my income in Turkey? or gained property there while living there?
3) Will I need to pay inheritance tax to UK for my inherited property in Turkey?
When I searched it online, there are always advantages of dual citizenship or UK passport. But, I couldn't find anything about disadvantages orobligations that need to be carried out for UK. I thought people having dual citizenship (esp. both Turkish&British) may already know this.
Alternatively, could you please advise me who I can ask those questions. I called a solicitor to ask if I get advices, she told she woudn't know and she only helps with naturalization application process.
It's a really tough decision becuase I lived here for 6 years (Tier 2, extenstion, ILR) and waited for UK passport for years .Now, I am eligible to apply for Citizenship, but I had a dilemma although most of my documents are ready because of change in my future plans:
1) I first thought it could be better to make the application to have the dual nationaly before moving unless there is a disadvantage. because i may decide to come back to UK again in the future if circumstances change. If so, I wouldnt need to apply for Uk visa.
2) On the other hand, while I was trying to get the avdantage of dual citizenship, I don't want to put myself in hard situation or extra obligations (?) I need to carry out for UK e.g. extra tax, extra inherit tax, being have to inform UK government about every change
I would be really really grateful if any of you give some advices!
