Is maternity exemption considered BENEFIT or public fund??

Post by anuje » Wed Jul 02, 2008 9:41 pm

Hi,
I was just wondering whether maternity exemption (free prescription for child and mother) after child birth comes under public fund, in reference to people (non EU) on limited leave to remain as WP/HSMP holder. I know these people are entiteled to free nhs care.Any advice will be highly aprreciable.

It's my understanding that all pregnant women eligible for care under the NHS are eligible for the free prescriptions/dental/eye care during pregnancy and the 12 months following the birth of the child, and it does not count as a public fund.

Maternity exemption is not considered a public benefit nor is maternity pay. The complete list of public funds is available on the home office website and maternity benefits are not part of them.
