Need visa to Attend a wedding in UK

Post by jss117 » Tue Mar 31, 2015 9:14 pm

My nephew is who is an American citizen is getting married to a British citizen in August. I am an Indian citizen and I am invited by my American family to attend the wedding in UK.

Which documents would I be needing to show that I am attending a wedding in UK but none of immediate relatives live in UK.

Regards.

My best guess would be that you need to come on visitor visa and you can explain in cover letter about the wedding. Any docs related to wedding, letter from your nephew and a letter from the British citizen would be of advantage. In addition you need to provide your financial documents, employment details, assets, proof of family ties in India alongside proving your intent to return to India after the wedding.
With the above, you should be good to go.

Please look out for responses from other members in this form too.

some travel agents in india are telling me that it has to be the UK citizen this is case the fiance of my nephew or her family who has to send me the sponsorship letter. I was wondering if my US relative can sponsor me and what exactly would I need from UK relatives?

You dont need to be sponsored for a general visitor visa. Proof of accommodatio is required, funds to support you and you have to show strong ties to india.

I think the agents are talking about the invitation letter. As you are apply for the UK visa, this letter (inviting you for the wedding) has to come from the British citizen. They wont have to provide any financial detials, or proof of accommodation. They can simply attach a letter (addressed to the British High commissioner in the city you are about to apply) confirming that they would like you to attend the wedding and provide their contact details along with a photocopy of their passport. It is essential that you show strong ties back in India (family + financial assets) for a successful application. It would also help if you have previously been issued visa and traveled to Europe (including UK) or USA.
