Guidance for Applying for a Spouse Visa

Post by mithu816 » Thu Feb 01, 2024 7:46 pm

My wife is working in the UK under a Skilled Worker Visa. I am currently in the process of applying for a spouse visa. Kindly advise on the following points

Employment History:

In the employment history section, there is an option for 'Government (including Public or Civil Administration and non-military compulsory national service).' I work in a Public Sector Bank in India, which, despite government ownership, is not a direct government job. The salary is paid by the bank. Should I answer 'Yes' to the above question, considering the nature of my employment?

Extra Information:

In the 'extra information' section, should I provide details about my financial standing, employment, or any other relevant information to strengthen my spouse visa application?

Supporting Documents:

Are cover letters or any additional documents (aside from my wife's employment details) required as supporting documents? If so, what specific documents should I include to support my spouse visa application?

Future Plans:

Upon obtaining the visa, I intend to stay for one month only initially due to my job commitments in India. After six months, I am considering resigning from my current job to join my wife abroad. Is it advisable to include these future plans in my application, and if so, how should I articulate them?

Just to be clear, you are NOT applying for a Spouse Visa (which is a very specific visa for a spouse of a person settled or who is British). You are applying for a Skilled Worker Dependent visa. Different visa, different rules.

If it is NOT a government job, then the answer is obviously no. Don't overthink it.
Extra Information:

In the 'extra information' section, should I provide details about my financial standing, employment, or any other relevant information to strengthen my spouse visa application?
No, irrelevant. It is simple, for the visa, you either meet the requirements or you don't.
Supporting Documents:

Are cover letters or any additional documents (aside from my wife's employment details) required as supporting documents? If so, what specific documents should I include to support my spouse visa application?
Not required.
Future Plans:

Upon obtaining the visa, I intend to stay for one month only initially due to my job commitments in India. After six months, I am considering resigning from my current job to join my wife abroad. Is it advisable to include these future plans in my application, and if so, how should I articulate them?
None of this is relevant or required. Please do bear in mind that absence of 180 days or more breaks your continuity of residence. Plan accordingly.

You are overthinking a bit.
