How to calculate absences for ILR?

Hi,

Does any one know how to calculate the total number of days "absent" for ILR. Is there any "official" guidance for it?

Say for example, if i go to Europe on Friday night and return to UK on Sunday evening, will this count as 3 days of absence?

I've made a number of short weekend trips on bank holidays etc, so this will affect my calculation quite a bit.

To be absent you need to be out of the country for a whole day. So in your example, you were only out of the country for one day i.e. Saturday.

Thanks for the explaination. I am exactly in the same situation. Unfortunately this information is very critic for my application due to many exits and entries.
I am not worried about ILR application because they are not adding up to 180 days per year however I am worried about the 90 days and 450 days for the UK citizenship application.

Here is my question in a simple way:
I left on 23/05/2014 in the morning and I have returned on 25/05/2014 in the afternoon.
There are 3 options:
1- count the days in-between: 1 day absence
2- count the difference: 2 day absence
3- count the days including entry and exit : 3 day absence

Any comments / suggestions are very much appreciated.

I have previously been told that dates on which you travel are not to be counted. Hence you only count days when you were totally absent from the UK (1 in the example you gave).
