ILR renewal in spite of e-visa

Post by Bala_Gurusamy » Sat Aug 03, 2024 8:17 pm

Hello everyone

This is my first post here, thanks in advance for your advice.

I have been granted ILR in January 2015 with a BRP card valid until 12th January 2025 (10 years). Since I haven't received an email from the Home Office, I registered for the e-visa in GOV website and now obtained e-visa ILR. The e-ILR issued now hasn't got an expiry date.
I was told by my friend that he has got an e-ILR with an expiry date.

My question is: As my original ILR was valid until 12th Jan 2022, does my e-visa also valid until then?
In spite of having a e-visa without an expiry date, do I still need to apply for my extension of ILR before 12th January 2025?

Many thanks
Bala

ILR is “indefinite” you don’t apply for renewal, whether eVisa or otherwise. Under the current system you apply for a BRP card renewal.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Thanks for your reply, As i now issued with a e-ILR why do i need a BRP card renewal as i thought e- ILR is now replaced for BRP card.

Unless you wish to travel before 31 Dec 2024 then you probably don't need a BRP.
eVisa is not life yet - due from 1 Jan 25.

Is that mean the e ILR issued now is valid only until 12th January 2025. Still i need to re-apply for my ILR status? thanks

ILR as rightly pointed out above means indefinite I.e. it has no end. Its in days of BRP that there is need to renew the physical card.
Now for your ILR with evisa there is no end date and rightly so.
Your status as ILR has got no end.

Your status as ILR has got no end.
Unless it lapses, due to an excessive absence from the UK.

I don't even think that you can apply for a BRP renewal. As far as I can tell there's no way to do it for those with ILR. Check this link : https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence- ... xpired-brp
'If your permission to stay in the UK lasts longer than your BRP
You do not need to apply for a replacement BRP.

You’ll switch to using an ‘eVisa’ instead by 31 December 2024....'
