Moving from Israel to England - need help

Post by C7D » Tue Feb 24, 2015 7:12 am

As much as I’d like to keep this short I have to explain a few things and I’m hoping people with experience will be nice enough to read it and help.

I’m Israeli. I’m married to my wife for over a year (been together for over six years) and we are looking to move and settle in the UK.
My wife is British and lives in London.

A few good months ago we asked many questions and after consulting a subsidised immigration office we learned that she needs to be earning over 18,600 a year, have a flat that meets the criteria and so on.
She then switched jobs and is now earning well over that amount but she still has two and half more months until reaching the required six months of payslips.

At the moment she’s in London working and I’m in Israel more or less just waiting as well as sorting out everything because moving to a different country is incredibly difficult.

Here’s where we feel confused and uncertain…
Every time we ask questions we get different answers which is incredibly difficult and confusing. It’s very hard to understand what steps to follow and how long each of them takes.
Last time we asked questions about how long the application itself takes we were told that it takes somewhere between a week and a month. Then, when asking the subsidised Immigration office we were told about a month and now, just a few days ago, when I called the British embassy in Tel Aviv, I was told that it takes at least three months.
This is just an example of what I mean by different answers.
There is a very big difference between one week and over three months and it makes planning very difficult.

Similarly, we were told that I was to go to the British embassy in Tel Aviv, ask for the forms I need to fill (I was told there are two) and with them go back (along with all other paperwork, copies, pictures, etc) and that they will help us “constructing” the applications.
After calling the embassy in Tel Aviv I was told that in fact, they don’t deal with applications at all!
Apparently there is a building of lawyers somewhere in Tel Aviv, it has no phone number you can call and no email to ask questions and it is impossible to set an appointment.
When speaking with the secretary of the Tel Aviv British embassy on the phone I asked her if she could at least tell me what forms I need and how exactly do I apply if I can’t even contact that other office. She told me that she doesn’t know which forms I need and that I need to fill everything online and at some point a pop up screen will appear from where I’d be given dates to set my appointment at that unknown building and apply from there.

After hearing this I got very confused.
The last thing that I want is to do something wrong. Not have some paper I need, etc.

I just have so many questions that I don’t even know where to begin!

What forms do I fill online?

Do I do it with the immigration officer that helped us so far or by myself and what do I do with all the form-questions that I simply don’t understand?

There was an English test I took at Pearson. I was told I need to log-in to their server and from there to send the result document to wherever it is that they check that I passed. How do I do that? When?

If I’m in London setting up all the paperwork and filling up the online forms with my wife and helping officer, how do I know that the dates offered in the popping window won’t be for say… two days later where I’m still in a different country and not in Israel?

As you can see I’m quite confused as to how to continue with the whole thing.
I’d really appreciate any informative help.

https://www.gov.uk/join-family-in-uk/overview

This is the place to start! It is Important to go through it step by step so that you make sure you submit all the necessary supporting documents.

The application form is an online document which you should fill out in your home country so that you can attend the biometrics appointment as soon as possible. When you complete that, you pay for the application online along with the biometrics. At least that is what we did. Not sure if it is the same in Israel but the instructions as you go along should clarify that.

You also need to print out Apoendix 2 which covers the details of how you meet the financial requirements. It is filled out by hand and submitted with your other documents. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... endix2.pdf make sure that is the latest version. I cannot find a later one but it is important to make sure there have been no changes.

Your wife needs to have earned the required amount for at least six months before the application is submitted. All documents must be originals and copies of all supporting documents should be submitted.

You do not really need an immigration lawyer to help you if you read everything carefully. We made.a whole file of all the forms and documents we needed to read.

As to the English test, I cannot advise but make sure the test you took is still accepted. Some were taken off the acceptable list. https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... uage-tests

Hope this helps!

Thank you for replying.

I did the Pearson test which from what I can see now is not accepted after April which means that I'll have to take a second test somewhere else!

I can't say I'm any less confused as to what happened when I apply online because it seems that I need to have my biometrics taken at the embassy (i'm just guessing) and the application itself I'm sending through that unknown building that I can't contact.

Not very clear. Unfortunately.

Regarding copies...
Should all copies be certified by a lawyer? If so, how many copies from each document should we include and which of them need to be copied?

We understand that we need to have a copy of her passport but what else must be included as a certified copy and have extra copies as well?

Thanks

We did not certify any of our copies. I copied everything except for the Application form and Appendix 2 to send to UKVI as they tend to then keep the copies and return the originals. I also kept a copy of everything for our records, including the applcation form and Appendix 2.

Several good years ago I applied for a student visa and didn't get it for a few reasons:
First, I was very very naive to the amount of proof they wanted in writing and so I didn't include enough proof but also the guy who checked it couldn't find a record that the place existed because it wasn't registered under some department of skills etc.

When asked in the application whether I was refused a previous visa I'm not sure what to write because honestly other than me not including enough proof I'm not sure how exactly a proper person could not find a record for a branch of Kingston university! The whole thing was incredibly surreal. So I'm not sure what to write and how to address it because I'm not sure that I understand it myself!

Also, following that visa refusal I went to the UK. Again, being totally naive as to how the system works they stopped me at the air port and no matter what I said they weren't listening and in the end shipped me back to israel with a black cross in my passport.
It was a very difficult time in our lives because all I wanted is to be with my wife (back then still girlfriend).

I've been in england many times since. Possibly ten times. Every time they would stop me, ask the same questions, a few times I'd have to wait for three hours but in the end they would let me in.
On my part I view it as "positive" since I'm proving that the whole thing was a silly event and of course I'm leaving the country in due date and on time.
But here too, I'm not sure how to address it. When asked if I ever had that terrible black cross I'm not sure how to address it and what to write. Especially when they only give you two lines to write and although there is a bit more space in section 9.1 it's really not enough space to cover everything in detail.

Can anyone offer some guidance here?

Be honest! If you have visited the UK since then it obviously hasn't had any impact. Even if you don't understand the refusal just state the reasons. No point risking refusal over something that hasn't been an issue since...
