problems with OCI photo and signature upload

Hi Gurus,moderators and fellow members,
I am having problems trying to upload the photo and signature for OCI application.
When I click browse and add photo and signature , it says
"CROP: Applicant photo which you have selected is as per instructions. If you want to change then click crop button and drag the white selected area or else can directly upload the original image.

But when I click upload tab to upload them ,I repeatedly get error message saying: "Some problem with the format is detected"
The photo is 300x300 pixels and 28.5 Kb and signature is 240x 80 pixels and 5.12 Kb
I have tried multiple times on different browsers-chrome, IE, firefox,spent hours on it and finally given up.
Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated.
