transit visa for uk trip via amsterdam

Hi,

A Peruvian national travelling on a tourist visa to UK Northern Ireland as there is no direct flights for travel to the UK from Peru, and I would like to know if chose to fly the least flight time Lima direct to Amsterdam with a connection flight to Belfast, do we need a transit visa for entering airport and staying only in airport waiting on connection flight. Or can you travel onto UK without this visa.some sites say yes you do require one but others say no. Confused

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
