Reduction of working hours in the NHS for Tier 2 visa.

Post by fluboe » Tue Feb 11, 2020 11:36 pm

Dear experts, I have some questions that I hope you can help me with.

Currently, I am on a Tier 2 General Visa and am employed full time (37.5hrs) as a Band 8A Psychologist (annual salary of £44, 606). I was recently offered a Band 8B Lead Psychologist (annual salary of £52,306) part-time post of 18.75 hours.

As such, I was hoping to reduce my working hours with my current employer to maybe 18.75 or 22.5 hours.

However, I have read a couple of posts posted a few years ago that for Tier 2 visa, the minimum working hours is 30 hours as anything less is considered part-time?

Obviously, I am hoping to do part-time at my current job but still the majority of the hours compared to the second job.

Is that a plausible situation?

Psychologist jobs are currently listed on the shortage list and I don't see any minimum wage requirement, so I assumed £30,000 is the amount.

I would be ever so grateful if someone could provide their advice and opinion on this matter.

You can't do this.

You need to work full time for your sponsor with a minimum of 30 hours per week. A second job can be no more than 20 hours per week and outside the time you work for you main sponsor.

A second job is irrelevant to your requirements for extension and ilr. It doesn't count, hours or salary, to meet the mandatory requirements.

Job being shortage doesn't exempt you from this.
