Route for citizenship after ILR

Post by Amnabawa1 » Mon Dec 11, 2023 3:05 pm

Hi. I am confused about the route I should be taking. I was on tier 1 dependent visa and got my ILR six months back. My partner is a British citizen. Which route should I go for citizenship? The 3 year route(spouse of British citizen) or 5 year where I can apply on my own right. I have completed my 5 years in UK, but I want to know if the history of travel and proof of residence should be given for 3 years or 5 years.

You can't go for a 5 year route even, as it requires you to hold ILR for 12 months before applying for citizenship. I don't even know if you can apply in your own right.

Apply as a spouse.

You just wouldn't mention that your spouse is British, and don't give any British passport details. Provided your have had ILR for 1 year, it would be treated as such.

Apply as a spouse. Fastest route as it currently stands.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Apologies for the confusion - meant to say OP cannot yet apply on their own, as they dont have a year on ILR. Thanks Ticktack.

Also, I think, there was a discussion about someone applying via 5 year route when married to a Brit and their certificate stated 6(2), still, but I not be up to speed on latest developments

You can apply as spouse of British citizen and supply 3 years evidence of residence.
