Aha. Good to know. Thanks. I don't plan on asking the state for anything initially. Just my NI number in order to gain employment. Will also convert my driver's license ASAP.

Re: South African emigrating to UK in 2020, Seeking Tech Jobs

Then again, it also depends on what area/suburb specifically and what type of accommodation you are seeking. For example, I live in a houseshare with other non related people, in a small room (and I mean small) and pay £95 per week but it does include all bills (council tax, tv licence, utilities, ...

Re: South African emigrating to UK in 2020, Seeking Tech Jobs

When you say 'limited funds', how much do you reckon you will have?? At the very least, enough to survive 2 months as if I was a full time resident (i.e. taking account average cost of living, taxes, rent, transport, food, mobile). This all depends on my severance pay from the company I am with ...

Re: South African emigrating to UK in 2020, Seeking Tech Jobs

It really depends hugely on where you will be based in the UK. Presumably you have accommodation sorted?? I can PM you a list of UK employment agencies if you wish?? this will help if you want to start temporary or contract work. I was planning to stay with my Father, but he is moving to Cornwall ...

Re: South African emigrating to UK in 2020, Seeking Tech Jobs

You will need to wait till you are here ideally, have your NI number and can apply for jobs and attend interviews. Members are also not permitted to name companies specifically on the forum. Wow that was a fast response! I accidentally hit submit and was still editing my post. I am basically just ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration via Great-Grandparents

Hi there From what you've described, eligibility for Irish citizenship stops at your father, as he has grandparents who were born in Ireland. The only way you would have been eligible is if your father had already claimed Irish citizenship through FBR before you were born. There are only special ...

Re: Just obtained citizenship. What next?

You can only apply for an NI number once you are IN the UK. Yes, you need to register with a GP/NHS in the area you will live in. You will need proof of residence and your passport. You will also need a passport to open a bank account. A bank account is not difficult to open. Thank you CR001. Your ...

Can I ask which of your fathers original documents did you send to support your application? Some say ‘send birth cert, passport, naturalisation, etc and some say send only one of them.

I only sent my dad's BC. All went fine.
