believe me, Ho will accept any one as referee as long as they don't have any criminal past. For me one of my collegue signed it and he doesn't have any sort of professional stading apart from a job as receptionist

You don't send your British Passport at the time of applying for OCI. You send it only when it is granted.

I didn't get any acknowledgement from the. For me it took 5 weeks. You don't need the ack. No to see the online status, you can use the online reg.no. 165 X 4 is what you have to pay. With 2 kids you may be better off if you go for PIO card. PIO card for kids are cheaper.

That is incorrect! BOTH referees absolutely have to be British citizens. I have an email from HO confirming that the referee (professional standing) can be of any citizenship residing in UK. I keep saying this b'cos my friend got caught by HO. The moment you take the oath you loose India Citizenship and your ILR become invalidated. So to leagally enter UK you need to apply for ROA and the moment the Indian immigration guys see ROA on your Indian passport they will send you to the guest ...
