I hit submit/paid the application fee at 10pm last Wednesday, and received the email the following day just after 3pm. It's sent by "hocommunications@communications.homeoffice.gov.uk" if you want to check your spam folder.

We received the same confirmation emails for the kids, but hadn't even uploaded any additional documentation. Go figure. The system may be online, but it's certainly not "smart"!
