Re: Non EU Join Family Visa (Irish Spouse)

Yes, they should contact you if they need anything, but it's much easier to provide everything they might ask for in advance to make their decision easier. I know of someone who got asked for additional documents at 20 months post application. It's only my guess - but I'd imagine the fact that it ...

Re: Non EU Join Family Visa (Irish Spouse)

No problem, happy to help. We've just been through the process. My wife's visa took 12 months. My other advice would be that they're primarily looking at two things: 1) is the relationship genuine, 2) is the Irish spouse financially stable/able to support. We submitted additional documents directly ...

Re: Non EU Join Family Visa (Irish Spouse)

1. You can request the return of your passport while your application is processed. Email the embassy and explain that you need to travel. Ask them to confirm that they will return it without affecting your application. My wife asked for her passport to be returned in her application letter, and she ...

Waiting time for Join Family visas doubled in 2025

I got a response back to a Freedom of Information request this week. Average processing time in Dublin for Join Family Visas for family of Irish citizens has more than doubled in 2025 to 407 days. Two thirds of applications have taken more than 12 months. In 2024, only 9% did. They're on course to ...

Huge increases in visa wait times

What's going on in the Department of Justice? I'm including here a chart of how visa wait times have increased for visas sent to the Dublin office for examination. Since 2023, the published wait times for Join Family visas have increased from less than one year to over two years. Almost across the ...

Re: Join family visa (non EU) processing times

Below are the dates from the Visa Decisions page at different points in the past 18 months. What I've heard from someone working alongside the government is that the new requirement of visas for South Africans (introduced mid 2024) has seen big jumps in the number of applications and that's part of ...

Re: Join family visa (non EU) processing times

We're 9-10 months into the process and still waiting. As far as I understand, your best chance of avoiding the 12+ months wait is to make your application look bulletproof, as when applications are initially examined at the receiving embassy some are granted without further examination in Dublin ...

Re: Wait time for Join Family (Spouse of Irish Citizen)

We just submitted our application today (to an embassy, not to Dublin). I'll update here when it eventually comes through.

Wait time for Join Family (Spouse of Irish Citizen)

Hi all, I'm interested to hear if anyone has recent experiences of wait times for a decision on Join Family visas for the spouse of an Irish Citizen. The policy document references a target of a 6 month wait time, but the "Visa Decisions" page suggests it is closer to 12 months at present. Thanks.

Re: Translation of bank statements for visit visa

Yep, it's tricky. Obviously my statements show amounts coming in and out corresponding to my salary, and the consistent balance over time, but the text describing it isn't in English. Seems an awful lot to have to spend just to provide this. (Six months of statements is a lot of pages!) I can't be ...

Translation of bank statements for visit visa

Hi all, I'm hoping to visit Ireland on a C visa in a few months time. My bank will issue me a balance statement in English - but I'm looking at a cost of ~€200 for translation of my six months of bank statements (with transaction details) into English. Does anyone have an idea if a balance statement ...
