You can travel to uk at anytime as PSW is not like student visa.

Waiting time for your visa application or appeal count as a legal resident. It is not an overstayer.

I sent initial appeal letter to AIT on 30th Nov 2009. And I got a letter for hearing date from AIT on 7th Dec 2009.
