I agree that for some it's a complete waste of time as they will not be able to complete the requirements to extend. I've always assumed that many Tier 1 (Ent) applicants at the 50K threshold are only going through the motions of starting a business and, being less than two years away from 10 years...

If you want to apply for the entrepreneur visa from outside UK, you will have to do it with the 200 k entrepreneur way

Yes, you can technically apply on the last day your visa is set to expire. But if you apply for tier 1 and you are approved for the visa, and then a month later you managed to find a job willing to hire you on a tier 2 visa.
