Re: October 2013 - Naturalisation Application Timeline

We were away over Christmas and New Year but happily the approval was waiting when we got back. Updating here in case it is still of interest to anyone waiting: Eligibility criteria: Spouse of BC, applying under 6(1), discretion requested for excess absenses Method of application: NCS Lanark Date of ...

Glad to see others making progress. We have not been so lucky yet. Apparently the NCS did not forward the payment form so I sent it again and it appears we have gone to the back of the queue (since another week and still no payment taken). Also its so frustrating they send everything second class ...

I would argue that the issues are quite independent (her elligibility for citizenship and my EU rights) and that the EU rights is something that applies to me as a UK national and not to her (she is not claiming any EU rights or looking to change her status, since she already has ILR). But actually ...

It was recently that we were in Germany (2011-2012). I was working and she was accompanying me. She does not qualify automatically for citizenship based on the absence, but is within the limits for which discretion can be allowed (I have other posts on this) and based on a careful reading of Ch 18 ...

Have I triggered my EC freedom of movement rights?

Hi all, I am a British citizen since birth. My wife is non-European, non-Commonwealth citizen with ILR (since 2007). We currently have her application for British Citizenship in progress. She would like to apply for a civil service job. I am trying to understand this section of the guidance ...

Thanks. Yes I had read that. But it still leaves some aspects open to interpretation. There are jobs in science in the UK - it is not the same as being a merchant seaman. I guess I was hoping for someone with specific experience either way. However, the second one is the more important. According to ...

See Chapter 18, Annex B - 4.1.2 (click) Thanks I had seen that and read it carefully - it lead me to the questions I asked above. Specifically - is discretion applied for short term overseas jobs in science, and is it possible for a spouse application to be considered under the 5 year requirement ...

Discretion on residency requirements for spouse

Hello, My wife is a Brazilian national. We married in 2005 and she has indefinite leave to remain since september 2007. In 2010 I finished my PhD and we moved to another European country for me to take a postdoc job. We were there for 23 months. Apart from that period she has been resident in the UK ...
