Skilled worker renewal 2 or 3 years

Hi All,

I had been in the UK since 2018 in ICT visa and changed to Skilled worker in 2021 May.(visa fee sponsored by employer for main applicant alone)
Now my visa is due for renewal by May 2024.
Our employer is suggesting to go for 3 year renewal instead of the required 2 year renewal for ILR.
But considering the NHS charges increase ( for me and 3 dependents) we are thinking to go for only 2 year renewal.

1. Can I alone renew the visa for 3 years and for dependents we can apply only for 2 years? Is it possible?
2. Any scenarios we would definitely need the 3 years visa instead of 2 years ?
(scenarios where the ILR application could not be submitted for me and have to wait longer kind of cases?)
3. Can I apply for ILR and only with the application reference my dependents can apply for extension?

No it is not. Dependents gwt the same visa length as you. You cant choose less time.

A cos can be of any duration. Ask employer for a two year cos.

We based advice if fact and the rules. Not hypothetical or possible avenarios. Why would you not be able to apply for ilr?

Yes. They would apply for a 3 year extension then.

I have asked for a 2 year renewal to my employer and below was the response
"We recommend a 3 year extension if for any reason you are unable to meet all the requirements to apply for ILR we would have to extend your current visa then. Please confirm if you would still like to apply for a 2 year extension."

So tell what you want to do. Nothing prevents them from issuing a 2 cos.

Not sure what you believe the issue is.
