Travelling on a spouse visa?

Post by ms1993 » Mon Jul 08, 2024 9:39 pm

Hi, I’m sorry I wasn’t sure which hairs to post this on so thought I’d try this one. My husband has a Spouse visa and we’re looking at holidays which often have a stop over in an EU country. If my husband is *not* leaving the EU country airport, does he need a Schengen or any visa for that country? Ie if we’re going to Jordan via France, does he need a visa for France? We wouldn’t be leaving the airport at all, only passing through for the collecting flight.

The UK spouse visa in this context is irrelevant. It is for UK only.
Normally if you are in airport transit (i.e. not leaving the air side) then you don't need a visa.
If you leave air side and then having to check in again then perhaps a visa is required.
Have you checked with the airline?

Not with the airline, no because we’re exploring different options so different airlines.

We pretty much would be departing one plane and boarding another at no point leaving the airport.

As long as you don't enter French territory, i.e. you don't go through arrivals passport control.

Thank you, that answers my question clearly. We would only be going through security & boarding. No passport /exit processes.

Do note that some nationalities require transit visa even when airside in the EU. You need to check.
Example, all nationalities travelling to the USA or Canada don't need transit visa to pass through the EU.
On the other side, the Schengen Territory member states have the right to make the obtaining of a Transit Schengen Visa a must, for nationals of specific countries. Countries as the Czech Republic, France, and Spain have a longer list of countries the citizens of which must obtain this type of visa in order to be able to transit through their airports. Whereas, there are also 14 other countries of the Schengen Zone, which besides the countries listed above, do not require a transit visa from any other country.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
