Use Exempt Vignette to apply British citizenship

Post by Jpeng012 » Thu Dec 07, 2023 12:19 pm

Hi all, my work place - an international organisation offers Exempt Vignette, they told me it’s not count towards ILR but can count towards British citizenship. Does anyone have any knowledge how it works, please? I have read an archived post elsewhere saying can apply British citizenship directly after on it for 3 years. Someone else says it counts towards the 10 years route to ILR… I am confused. Can someone help please? Thanks so much

Can you provide more details on this vignette, even a picture perhaps (redact personal details).
Any guidance document you can provide? 3rd hand information or opinions need to tie into UKVI guidance, hopefully you can obtain further details.

This is an extract from naturalisation guidance for caseworkers (https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... ration-act) - any of this might apply?:

"Applicants exempt from immigration control under section 8(3) or (4) of the Immigration Act
There are 3 categories of people who are treated as exempt from immigration control under section 8(3) and (4) of the Immigration Act:
- those who are, or have been, members of the home forces, such as HM Forces and were serving in the UK on the date of application
- past and present members of the diplomatic staff of a mission
- a Commonwealth or visiting force, whether locally engaged or otherwise
- past and present locally engaged members of the non-diplomatic administrative, technical, and service staff of a mission who:
-started their employment before 1 August 1988
-were locally recruited on or after 1 August 1988 and were not at that time entitled to exemption from control but became so entitled upon re-admission following an absence abroad"

There are further explanations relating to members of diplomatic missions and households.
