Made EU-Citizen MID-WAY through the visa application!

Post by chippo » Tue May 13, 2014 11:27 am

Hello

I have already started my application for a family reunion visa as a non-EU citizen. It is still being processed.
My wife is an EU National and studying in Zurich.

Last week I received my spanish citizenship, so I am officially now an EU National.
I am wondering if I should forego the non-EU family reunion visa application I started, and apply as an EU citizen? Is it easier, because there are a few (difficult) things I need to supply to the government. (I can't seem to find the information anyway on the Zurich Cantonal Immigration website).

Why would you need a visa if you are not a Spanish citizen? What would be the point in continuing with it? Do you have a Spanish passport yet?

Because even being a Spanish citizen, you need to have a visa/permit to be in Switzerland.

I am getting the passport in a couple of weeks.

As a Spanish citizen, you do not need no visa to enter Switzerland, if you intend to stay more than 3 months then you will need to register at the competent cantonal migration office, for Zürich is
Migrationsamt des Kantons Zürich
Berninastrasse 45
Postfach 8090 Zürich
Tel.: 043 259 88 00
Fax: 043 259 88 10

HO received 24.07.17
Paid on 25.07.17
Biometrics 23.08.17
COA received 07.09.17
Passports received 07.09.16

Yes I understand that, but my question refers to swapping to a different permit application. I think i will talk to the migrationsamt to ask them.
