Australian IT professional wants to work in germany

Post by adodera » Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:45 pm

Hi there,

I speak some German and I am looking for jobs in Germany. I am Australian citizen now (just got it months ago) but I don't have any EU-citizenship.

Being an IT person, what do I need to have ready in terms of translated documentation etc. in order to quickly process a work visa (or residence visa?) once a get a firm job offer from an employer in Germany?
Also, according to latest German legislation, would I be able to change to another employer in Germany without requiring a new work visa? i.e. is the visa dependent on the employer?

Thanks!
Alex

'Some' German isn't really good enough IMO. U might be lucky - I nearly got a job with the European Space Agency in Germany - it was an English lang environment there. That's rare tho.

Read my previous posts on this topic, German WP takes AGES, our first one from UK took four and half months and would have taken much longer if my gf hadn't have spoken to the German Labour Office in Bonn. This is where u need excellent German. It's the bureuacracy - it's phenominal.

Second one took six weeks in country and yes, you do have to change it when you change employer, it is employer dependant.

When I say "some" it means "very good at reading newspapers, books, literature, but in need of oral practice". I am working on that at the moment. On the other side, I will definitely try many other options like Belgium, NL, or nordic countries. How about that? Can be easier on that front? i.e. more chances and less struggle with the local legislation? Can anyone comment on his/her experiences being a non-EU IT person on Europe?

Thanks Wanderer for your reply!
