HSMP visa extension?

hello,

I came to the UK in February this year. My visa expiry date is in February 2007. I have employed for 4 months as a full time staff. As I am going back to my homeland for Christmas, so I would like to extend my visa before I gone, and prefer it to be done prompt, due to the difficult ticket booking time in a year. Could you tell me whether I can apply my application now or not? If I can not, when can I apply it earliest? What documents do I have to prepare?

I hold 4 months pay slip, passport, passport photos, and bank statement now. What about the rest of the document, which have to be submitted to the Home Office to support the extension, and how much the extension fee is? Thanks a lot!
