IELTS Doubt

Post by hari15 » Sun Apr 08, 2007 8:50 am

Hi All,
In IELTS do I need to score 6 in all 4 section?

Whatif I get 7 Points in Listening, Reading and writing and 5 Points in speaking? and if average is above 6?

or what if I get

Whatif I get 8 Points in Listening, Reading and writing and 4 Points in speaking? and if average is above 6?

I worried of my speaking because my accent is too bad

and there are 2 kinds of IETS test 1. Academic & 2. General

which one I should take

Thanks

Academic or General IELTS , both are acceptable in HSMP application.
As far as your second question is concerned i can only give you my personal opinion , when they ask for 6.0 band , it means you must take atleast 6.0 in all modules of IELTS as in the case of Canadian Immigration application. Senior members may correct me if i am wrong. Don't worry about your accent as long as you speak grammatically fine English.

They see overall score which is 6 or above. Even if you score 2 in Speaking and still your overall score is 6 or above you still meet the eligibility. Try hard to get as many points as possible.

GO FOR GENERAL TEST IT IS EASY COMPARED WITH ACADEMIC

Please note that speaking is important when you land in UK, the first thing at the interview is you need to sell yourself. I would advise you better take accent training as well.

In theory this is true, because they never mention about individual band but do not take it for granted. If you enter a university in the uk they normaly mention the lowest level for individual band. FOr instance, if they require IELTS of 6.5. THey say like this: IELTS of 6.5 with no individual band less than 6.0. In HSMP this is not the case because they just say IELTS of 6.0 (means eoveral band, no word about individual band).

If your Lowest Band is 5.5 I believe that this is still acceptable. 5.0 is questionable. But 2.0 I doubt that they will accept it. But do not worry about band of 2.0 because in the real IELTS test this case is hardly happen (if not never) as the difference level of someone ability in writing, speaking, reading shold not be so extreme.
